Samuelsen Blasts Columbia University for Failing to Protect Workers TWU members were working as Custodians and Security Officers in a Columbia University building in NYC when protesters stormed and occupied the building on April 30. The university epically failed to protect them, TWU International President John Samuelsen said in scathing letter to the university president, adding the union is exploring legal action against Columbia and the building occupiers. For airlines to allow previously banned, unruly passengers back onto planes — without an investigation, without notifying the workers who were assaulted, and without a plan to further protect them — is irresponsible and unacceptable. Learn More Call to Action: Support The Global Aircraft Maintenance Safety Improvement Act The bipartisan Global Aircraft Maintenance Safety Improvement Act (HR 7321), formerly known as The Safe Aircraft Maintenance Standards Act, improves safety standards for U.S.-flagged aircraft maintained abroad to bring them in line with domestically maintained aircraft. This will not only better ensure the safety and security of frontline aviation workers and the flying public, but also deter offshoring of aircraft maintenance. The Cabin Air Safety Act, sponsored by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Representative John Garamendi (D-CA), would help set our cabin air on a path to being healthy and safe.
